Ballard Spahr attorneys Ashley E. DeLuca and William Xiong will receive a 2022 Cornerstone Award from the Lawyers Alliance for New York in recognition of their “exceptional” contributions of pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations.

“Lawyers Alliance for New York wants to celebrate your pro bono legal work for nonprofit organizations that are improving quality of life in New York City neighborhoods,” Executive Director Elizabeth M. Guggenheimer wrote in a letter to Ms. DeLuca and Mr. Xiong.

They are receiving the award in recognition of Ballard Spahr’s pro bono representation of Community Health Initiatives to help the organization secure funding and space to construct and operate a community health center to serve residents of South Brooklyn. Ms. DeLuca, Mr. Xiong, and fellow honorees will be recognized at an event November 17 in New York City.

Through its network of pro bono lawyers from law firms and corporations, the Lawyers Alliance for New York provides business and transactional legal services for nonprofit organizations and social enterprises that serve neighborhoods in New York City.

The organization presents Cornerstone Awards to recognize “exemplary work and outstanding accomplishments” of attorneys and institutions that “have made extraordinary contributions through pro bono legal services. These services help nonprofits to address critical human needs and improve the quality of life for thousands of low-income New Yorkers.”

Ms. DeLuca practices transactional real estate law, including the acquisition, disposition, and development of retail, industrial, office, multifamily, hotel, and condominium properties. She represents landlords and tenants in leasing retail and office space and has specialized experience in development of condominium projects involving commercial, residential, and mixed-use properties.

Mr. Xiong focuses his practice on commercial real estate finance matters, and has experience representing clients in the acquisition, disposition, and financing of commercial real estate, including mortgage and mezzanine balance-sheet and CMBS loan originations.
