SCRANTON - Carbon County jail employees could have prevented a woman's suicide, a wrongful death lawsuit alleges.

A lawsuit was filed Dec. 18 against Carbon County and several correctional officers over the death of Alexandria Frable, who committed suicide while in custody at the Carbon County Correctional Facility (CCCF).

The suit, filed by Harvey and Mary Frable as administrators of their daughter's estate, alleges that the defendants showed deliberate indifference to Alexandria's vulnerability to suicide. The complaint states that despite knowledge of her mental health history, psychiatric diagnoses, estrangement from family, lack of permanent address, admission during the holiday season and detoxing from opioids upon intake, no adequate mental health or suicide risk assessment was conducted.

Consequently, no precautions were taken to protect her, the suit says. Three days after her admission on December 30, 2021, she was found hanging in a bathroom at CCCF. The plaintiffs are seeking damages for pain and suffering, loss of life and financial losses caused by the defendants' conduct.

Grace Harris and Jonathan Feinberg of Kairys, Rudovsky, Messing, Feinberg & Lin are representing the plaintiffs.
