HARRISBURG - A Pennsylvania man seeks compensation for the illness he says he suffered from eating tainted Jif peanut butter

Wayne Hinkin and Molly Hinkin filed a lawsuit Jan. 12 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against The J.M. Smucker Company and Wal Mart Stores, Inc., trading as Sam’s East, Inc. The couple, represented by Anzalone Law Offices, LLC, allege that Mr. Hinkin fell seriously ill after consuming a jar of Jif peanut butter purchased from Sam's Club and manufactured by The J.M. Smucker Company.

According to the complaint, Mr. Hinkin consumed the peanut butter on May 8, 2022, and subsequently experienced severe symptoms including diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, nausea, headache, lethargy, and fatigue for several weeks.

On May 20 of the same year, Smuckers recalled its Jif peanut butter products due to contamination with Salmonella. Upon learning about the recall, Mr. Hinkin checked his product and found it was part of the recall batch. He was later diagnosed with Salmonella poisoning and reactive arthropathy.

The tainted peanut butter killed a judge in Florida, a lawsuit there alleges. The Hinkins are represented by Jamie Joseph Anzalone of Anzalone Law Offices.
