A recent court filing has brought to light serious allegations against a care facility, painting a troubling picture of neglect and inadequate care. The complaint was filed by Michael Fordian, as Attorney-in-Fact for Frances Fordian, in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania on January 26, 2023, against Whitehall Care Group, LLC d/b/a Whitetail Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center.

The lawsuit centers around the alleged mistreatment and neglect of Frances Fordian during her stay at Whitetail Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center. According to the complaint, Frances Fordian had been admitted to the facility on July 20, 2022, after being diagnosed with early-onset dementia and other health issues including failure to thrive, anxiety, COPD, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. Despite these conditions and her high risk for falls due to medication side effects, the plaintiff asserts that Whitetail Springs failed to implement an adequate fall prevention plan or provide necessary supervision.

Michael Fordian noticed his wife's declining ability to care for herself in July 2022 and sought help from AHN Jefferson Regional Hospital. After various assessments confirmed her deteriorating condition and cognitive impairment, she was transferred to Whitetail Springs for further treatment. The complaint details multiple instances where Mrs. Fordian exhibited severe anxiety and confusion but received insufficient care. Notably, it alleges that on August 20, 2022, Mrs. Fordian suffered an unwitnessed fall resulting in a severe right hip fracture that required surgical intervention.

The complaint accuses Whitetail Springs of numerous failures including not conducting proper fall risk assessments upon admission or after incidents occurred. It also claims that staff did not adequately monitor or assist Mrs. Fordian despite clear signs of her need for increased supervision due to her medical conditions and medications. Furthermore, it highlights a lack of proper documentation regarding her falls and subsequent injuries.

In seeking judgment from the court, Michael Fordian demands compensatory damages exceeding jurisdictional arbitration limits for pain and suffering endured by Frances Fordian due to alleged negligence by Whitetail Springs. The relief sought includes compensation for medical expenses incurred from hospitalizations and surgeries following her falls at the facility.

Representing the plaintiff are attorneys Robert F. Daley (Pa I.D No.: 81992), Kirstin F. Kennedy (Pa I.D No.: 330458), Adriana Frontino (Pa I.D No.: 331896) from Robert Peirce & Associates P.C., Suite 125 at 707 Grant Street in Pittsburgh PA.
