PITTSBURGH - A woman is accused of stealing funds from the Fort Pitt Society to use for her own purposes.
The Fort Pitt Society, Daughters of the American Revolution of Allegheny County, and the Pittsburgh Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution filed a lawsuit Aug. 1 against Rebecca C. Stein.
The plaintiffs allege that Stein, who served as Treasurer and later as Regent for both organizations and now faces criminal charges, misappropriated nearly $300,000 from their investment and banking accounts for personal use between April 2019 and January 2023.
The complaint details how Stein allegedly used her positions to gain sole control over financial affairs and falsified records to conceal her actions. The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus punitive damages.
The case is filed in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Douglas Hart of Burns White represents the plaintiffs.
