A Pennsylvania woman has filed a lawsuit against a home healthcare provider, alleging negligence that led to severe injuries. On September 25, 2023, Minnie D. Dorsett filed the complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Exurbia Group, LLC, Randy Ford, and Robert Walker.

According to the complaint, Dorsett claims that she suffered significant injuries due to the negligence of an in-home caregiver provided by Exurbia Home Healthcare. The plaintiff alleges that on the date in question, a home health aide was assisting her from her bedroom to the bathroom at her residence. Despite knowing that Dorsett was unable to walk due to a previous stroke and required a wheelchair for such transfers, the aide attempted to help her walk instead.

The lawsuit details how the aide left Dorsett standing alone while she went back to retrieve the wheelchair. Unable to support herself, Dorsett fell and sustained serious injuries including a fracture of the neck of her left femur which required surgical intervention. The complaint lists several accusations against Exurbia Group and its agents: leaving Dorsett standing unassisted, failing to use her wheelchair for transfer as per her care plan, not calling for additional assistance when needed, and generally failing to prevent her fall.

Dorsett's legal representation argues that these actions constitute gross negligence and directly led to both physical and emotional trauma for their client. "She has endured and may continue to endure pain, suffering, inconvenience, embarrassment, mental anguish," states the complaint. Additionally, it notes that she has incurred medical expenses for treatment and rehabilitation and may continue to do so in the future.

The plaintiff is seeking judgment against Exurbia Group along with Randy Ford and Robert Walker in an amount exceeding the arbitration limits of the court. She is also requesting compensation for interest and costs associated with her injuries.

Representing Minnie D. Dorsett is Richard C. Levine from Ainsman Levine LLC.
