Duquesne Light Company has filed a lawsuit against an individual for allegedly causing significant damage to its property. The complaint was lodged by Duquesne Light Company in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on January 16, 2025, targeting Naya Boyd as the defendant.

According to the complaint, Duquesne Light Company is a Pennsylvania-based limited liability company that provides electricity services. The incident in question occurred on or about April 23, 2023, when Naya Boyd was reportedly operating a Mercedes Benz near 46 E Steuben Street in Ingram, Allegheny County. It is alleged that Boyd's negligent and careless driving led to her vehicle colliding with a utility pole and electric facilities owned by Duquesne Light at that location. The plaintiff claims this resulted in substantial damage to their property.

The lawsuit outlines several accusations against Boyd, emphasizing her failure to operate the vehicle safely and responsibly. Specifically, it accuses her of not maintaining proper control over the vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed, failing to stay within her lane, and not keeping a lookout for traffic conditions or road obstacles such as utility poles. Furthermore, it suggests she may have been driving while unfocused or impaired. These actions are said to have breached her duty of care towards Duquesne Light’s property.

As a result of these alleged negligent actions by Boyd, Duquesne Light asserts it incurred costs amounting to $17,848.77 for labor and materials necessary to repair the damaged utility pole and electric facilities. The company seeks judgment from the court for this amount along with interest and any additional relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Representing Duquesne Light Company is attorney Lauren N. Rulli from Pittsburgh. The case is filed under Case No: AR 24-000322 in the Civil Division-Arbitration section of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. The complaint emphasizes that if Boyd does not respond within twenty days of service, judgment may be entered against her without further notice.
