Adam Halloran has filed a lawsuit against Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC, alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The complaint was filed on January 22, 2025, in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Halloran accuses Jefferson Capital Systems of engaging in deceptive and abusive debt collection practices.

The case stems from an earlier civil complaint that Jefferson Capital Systems filed against Halloran on October 30, 2024. In response to this complaint, Halloran enlisted the help of J.P. Ward & Associates, LLC to defend him. On November 12, 2024, his attorneys formally entered their appearance and informed Jefferson Capital Systems that Halloran disputed the alleged debts. Despite this notification and subsequent withdrawal of their initial complaint by Jefferson Capital Systems on November 25, 2024, they allegedly continued to report false information about Halloran's debt status to credit agencies like TransUnion.

Halloran claims that Jefferson Capital Systems falsely represented the character and legal status of the alleged debt by marking it as "in Collection" and "PLACED FOR COLLECTION," despite knowing it was disputed. These actions are said to violate specific provisions of the FDCPA, including sections 1692e(2)(a) and 1692e(8), which prohibit false representations regarding a debt's status and communicating false credit information.

The plaintiff is seeking judgment against Jefferson Capital Systems for actual damages due to emotional distress and inconvenience caused by these actions. Additionally, he seeks statutory damages under the FDCPA, along with costs and attorney fees. Halloran's legal representation argues that such practices contribute to personal bankruptcies and invasions of privacy, underscoring the need for strict enforcement of consumer protection laws.

The attorneys representing Adam Halloran are Travis A. Gordon and Joshua P. Ward from J.P. Ward & Associates, LLC. The case is presided over by Magisterial District Judge Samuel V. Pendolino under Docket Number CVPDD008S317F598.
