McGuireWoods bolstered its formidable financial services litigation capabilities with the arrival of Pittsburgh partner Christopher J. Soller, who comes to the firm after serving as a senior legal officer at BNY. Soller is the third partner to join McGuireWoods’ Pittsburgh office this year.
Soller served as managing director and senior managing counsel for litigation at BNY, where he worked for over 15 years. He oversaw multibillion-dollar domestic and international litigation portfolios in all of the bank’s business areas and led the department responsible for handling third-party process across the company and its affiliates.
As a McGuireWoods partner, Soller draws on his industry knowledge and experience with complex commercial litigation, risk mitigation, corporate governance and financial reporting requirements to help clients achieve their goals.
“Chris has a client’s perspective of the legal and business challenges facing financial institutions and a keen understanding of how to solve their most difficult problems,” said Noreen Kelly, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation.
Robert Muckenfuss, chair of the firm’s Financial Services & Securities Enforcement Department, added: “The insight Chris gained as an in-house counsel and successful litigator will be a tremendous asset for clients as they navigate legal and regulatory challenges.”
McGuireWoods represents prominent financial institutions in complicated litigation and investigations. The firm was among an exclusive group that corporate counsel identified as a commercial litigation powerhouse in the 2025 “BTI Litigation Outlook” report. Law360 twice named McGuireWoods a “Banking Practice Group of the Year” for excellence representing financial services institutions in litigation, regulatory and transactional matters.
“It was an honor to work at BNY for over 15 years advising talented and dedicated business colleagues as part of an exceptional in-house legal department,” Soller said. “I look forward to continuing those relationships and building new ones as I begin this chapter of my career with the stellar team at McGuireWoods.”
Soller is the third partner to join McGuireWoods’ Pittsburgh office this year, following the recent arrivals of corporate governance partner Lisa Lind and labor and employment partner Gretchen Woodruff.
“Chris is a valuable addition who enhances our strong financial services litigation capabilities in Pittsburgh and nationwide,” said Penny Zacharias, managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office.
