In a legal battle that could impact rental car agreements nationwide, Budget Rent A Car System, Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Cherylyn Dorsey in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The complaint was officially lodged on February 21, 2025, accusing Dorsey of damaging a rental vehicle and seeking substantial financial compensation.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on February 22, 2023, when Cherylyn Dorsey rented a white 2022 Kia Forte from Budget Rent A Car System. According to the complaint filed by Jared M. Greenberg of Orlans Law Group PLLC, Dorsey was involved in a multi-vehicle accident while operating the vehicle in Pennsylvania. The police report attached to the complaint indicates that Dorsey was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license and making an improper turn. The collision resulted in extensive damage to multiple parts of the vehicle including the front bumper, engine components, and suspension system.

Budget Rent A Car System claims that prior to the accident, the vehicle had a fair market value of $20,651 but was deemed a total loss following the crash. Additional costs incurred include towing and impound fees amounting to $1,325.95 as well as other administrative expenses totaling $530.50. After salvaging the vehicle for $7,869.50, Budget is seeking damages amounting to $15,906.95 from Dorsey.

The plaintiff accuses Dorsey of breaching their rental agreement by failing to return the car in its original condition and not covering repair costs as stipulated in their contract. Furthermore, Budget alleges negligence on Dorsey's part for not adhering to standard driving practices which directly led to the accident and subsequent damages.

Budget Rent A Car System is asking for judgment against Cherylyn Dorsey for the total damages incurred along with interest and reimbursement for legal costs associated with this action. They are also seeking reasonable attorney's fees as per their contractual agreement with Dorsey.

Representing Budget Rent A Car System is Jared M. Greenberg from Orlans Law Group PLLC along with Michele M. Bradford and Nicole M. Francese who are also listed as attorneys on record for this case under Case ID #23-014271.
