A shocking collision at a Pittsburgh intersection has led to a lawsuit that could set a precedent for road safety accountability. On March 5, 2025, Lynne Thompson filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, against Elizabeth Bailey. The lawsuit stems from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on January 3, 2024, at the intersection of Universal Road and Anthon Drive.

According to the complaint, Lynne Thompson was lawfully operating her vehicle when it was violently rear-ended by Elizabeth Bailey's car. Thompson claims that the accident was solely due to Bailey's negligence and carelessness. The legal document details several accusations against Bailey, including failing to maintain control of her vehicle, not providing adequate warning of her approach, and violating Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Section 3310. "The motor vehicle accident was caused solely and exclusively by reason of the negligence and carelessness of the Defendant," states the complaint.

Thompson alleges severe injuries resulting from the crash, including damage to her lumbar spine and ongoing mental anguish. The plaintiff contends that these injuries have significantly impacted her ability to engage in daily activities and will continue to do so in the future. Furthermore, she anticipates incurring substantial medical expenses as well as a potential loss of earnings due to her diminished capacity for work.

The lawsuit seeks damages not exceeding $50,000 from Bailey for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Thompson argues that these financial burdens are directly attributable to Bailey's failure to operate her vehicle safely. In addition to compensatory damages, Thompson is seeking relief under the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law.

Representing Lynne Thompson are attorneys Anthony J. Giannetti and Adam D. Shorr from Swartz Culleton PC in Pittsburgh. The case is identified under GD No.CVPDD008S363F238, with proceedings taking place in Allegheny County's Civil Division court.
