Methodist Hospital hit with personal injury suit

Philadelphia attorney Mark H. Riesenfeld filed the premises liability complaint July 18 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of John Trerotola.

Named as defendants in the suit are Methodist Hospital, which is a division of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and Jefferson Health System, Inc.

According to the lawsuit, Trerotola was a patient at Methodist Hospital, located at 2301 S. Broad St., on July 28, 2009, when he fell inside patient room 433.

The fall, the lawsuit claims, was caused by a puddle of water on the floor that had been created by a leaky air conditioning unit located in the ceiling.

As a result of his fall, Trerotola suffered “serious and severe personal injuries,” including, but not limited to, lumbosacral strain and sprain with bilateral radiculopathy, left arm contusion, cervical sprain and strain, posttraumatic headaches and severe damages to his nerves.

Trerotola has, and will in the future be required to undergo medical attention to treat his injuries, the lawsuit states. He has also been unable to attend to his daily chores, activities and occupation because of the incident.

Trerotola demands judgment against the defendants in a sum not in excess of $50,000, plus interest and court costs.

The non-jury matter is scheduled for a March 20, 2012 arbitration hearing.

The case number is 110701573.
