The Pennsylvania Bar Association recently honored a Philadelphia attorney
with an award in honor of the man’s work in family law.
On July 13, during the bar association’s summer meeting in National Harbor, Md., the group’s Family Law Section presented Neil Hurowitz, special counsel to the Philadelphia firm of Astor Weiss Kaplan & Mandel, with the Eric Turner Memorial Award, which honors an attorney dedicated to the practice of family law.
The award included a $500 donation in Hurowitz’s name to the group Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers, which is a nonprofit organization that works to restore the health of Pennsylvania judges and attorneys, in addition to their family members, as well as law students at risk of health problems due to substance abuse, gambling depression and serious mental illnesses.
Hurowitz, who obtained his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law, has lectured across the country to attorneys on the topic of family law, according to the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
The attorney, who is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Law and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, runs a family law practice that specializes in divorce cases and financial issues, custody and support matters, and cases involving parental and grandparental visitation rights issues.
Hurowitz also deals in spousal abuse and alimony cases.
He has penned various books about family law, including two written specifically for the legal profession.
His biography on the website of Philadelphia-based Astor Weiss Kaplan & Mandel, where Hurowitz serves as special counsel, says prior to his current family law practice, the attorney tried numerous jury cases in everything from criminal defense and corporate disputes to medical malpractice, negligence, and civil litigation.
Hurowitz is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
He has served on the Board of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Pennsylvania Association of Trial Lawyers.
Hurowitz is a member of the American Bar Association, the Montgomery County (Pa.) Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.
He previously served as president of both the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
In the past, Hurowitz has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer and a top-rated Philadelphia divorce lawyer.
