A couple is taking legal action against a major healthcare provider following a slip-and-fall incident that resulted in severe injuries. Joanne M. Shaffer and her husband, Steve Shaffer, filed a complaint on March 18, 2025, in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas against Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc., which operates under various names including Crozer-Keystone Health System and Taylor Hospital.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on January 18, 2024, when Joanne Shaffer was admitted to Taylor Hospital for medical treatment. After undergoing an ultrasound procedure in her room, she was instructed by hospital staff to clean off the ultrasound gel in the bathroom. Upon entering the bathroom, she slipped and fell due to water accumulation on the floor caused by a broken pipe leaking from the ceiling. The plaintiffs argue that there were no warning signs or barriers indicating the hazardous condition of the floor. As a result of this fall, Joanne suffered extensive injuries including tears and strains requiring surgical intervention.

Joanne and Steve Shaffer accuse Prospect Medical Holdings and its affiliates of negligence for failing to maintain safe premises at Taylor Hospital. They claim that the defendants did not adequately inspect or repair the area where Joanne fell nor did they provide sufficient warnings about potential hazards. The complaint lists numerous alleged failures such as not placing warning signs or barricades around dangerous areas and neglecting to train staff properly to handle such situations.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensation exceeding $50,000 for damages related to medical expenses, loss of earnings, pain and suffering endured by Joanne Shaffer due to her injuries. Additionally, Steve Shaffer claims loss of consortium resulting from his wife's incapacitation which has affected their marital relationship.

Represented by attorney Marc S. Rosenberg from Rosenberg Law based in Bala Cynwyd, PA., the plaintiffs have demanded a jury trial for this major case filed under civil action complaint premises liability/slip & fall category (Case ID: not provided). The court filing underscores significant allegations against Prospect Medical Holdings Inc., Crozer-Keystone Health System Inc., Taylor Hospital along with unidentified parties referred as John Doe 1-10 and ABC Corporations 1-10.
