PHILADELPHIA – A Huntington Valley woman is suing an education group claiming it terminated her because of her disability.
Andrea Gay filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Nov. 16 against Empire Education Group, citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act .
Gay claims she was hired by Empire on Sept. 9, 2013, and during her employment with the company she was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, which substantially affected her vision. Gay alleges that due to her disability she requested reasonable accommodations to properly perform her duties, and was subsequently terminated on Aug. 12, 2014.
Gay is seeking appropriate action to end discrimination in the workplace; reinstatement; compensatory damages for loss of wages and fringe benefits, front pay, back pay, future benefits and loss of earning capacity; damages for emotional and physical distress, damage to reputation, as well as pain and humiliation; counsel fees, costs and interest.
