PITTSBURGH – A resident of Monessen is suing Sunbeam Products Inc. claiming that a malfunction of a electrical blanket led to a serious burn injury to her face.

Monessen resident Melissa Stima filed a lawsuit on Nov. 20 against Sunbeam Products Inc., which does business in Pennsylvania as Jarden Consumer Solutions, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania alleging negligence in the construction of one of their electric blankets.

On Nov. 27, 2013, Stima claims in the lawsuit that she was using a king-size Sunbeam electric blanket, sleeping with it on her in bed, when it caused a serious burn injury to her face. She is seeking compensatory damages in an amount of more than $250,000 and any further relief the court deems appropriate.

Stima is being represented by George E. McLaughlin of the Warhauer McLaughlin Law Group, P.C. of Denver, Colorado.
