PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia woman is suing her former employer claiming that she was harassed and discriminated against due to her sex.
Jacquline Sawa filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against RDG-GCS Joint Venture III and Walter Paul Kelley, citing violations of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and wrongful termination.
According to the complaint, Sawa was hired by the defendant in 2008 and in 2011 she was promoted to dispatch supervisor because of excellent performance. Although she performed well at work, she was repeatedly the recipient of sexual harassment, unsavory comments and overall sexual discrimination, she says. When the plaintiff took a medical leave to care for her mother, she was subject to hostile treatment when she returned, was suspended on July 24, 2014, and then terminated on July 30, 2014, over allegedly violating the company's computer use policy, the complaint states.
Sawa is seeking compensation for all damages suffered and all fees incurred. She is represented by James A. Bell of Bell and Bell LLP in Philadelphia.
