PHILADELPHIA — A former employee of Hahnemann University Hospital is suing the facility, alleging age discrimination that he says resulted in his wrongful termination after 40 years of employment.
Richard McBride of Westminster filed a lawsuit Jan. 26 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, alleging violations of the Age Discrimination Employment Act (ADEA) and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
According to the complaint, McBride had been an employee of the defendant for nearly 40 years until he was unexpectedly terminated from Hahnemann University Hospital under Tenant Healthcare July 10, 2013. The plaintiff alleges he had the most seniority of anyone in the lab where he worked and that he was given no reason for his being fired.
Upon termination, the suit says, McBride was given severance papers to sign that would release the hospital of all liability, including but not limited to discrimination. The plaintiff alleges the hospital fired him based on age discrimination, in violation of state and federal law.
McBride seeks an anti-discrimination policy be promulgated by the defendant, compensation for any and all pay benefits accrued from the date of termination, actual damages, punitive damages, costs, litigation fees and a trial by jury. He is represented by attorney W. Charles Sipio of Kolman Ely PC in Penndel.
