Woman accuses engineering firm of gender bias

Handiscriminate

PHILADELPHIA – A Downington woman claims her ex-employer underpaid her relative to male co-workers and alleges she was terminated after complaining of the disparity.

Jennifer Novielli filed a lawsuit March 17 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Trec Group Inc. and Peak Technical Services Inc., doing business as Peak Technical Staffing USA, alleging gender discrimination, retaliation and unequal pay.

According to the complaint, Novielli earned $19 per hour as a civil designer, whereas male co-workers performing the same functions allegedly earned between $22 and $24 per hour. After she complained of the pay disparity, Novielli claims she was ostracized, ignored and treated different by her peers and supervisor. When the plaintiff reported alleged mistakes made by a male co-worker serving on the same project, the suit says she was terminated while on vacation.

Novielli seeks compensatory and liquidated damages, front and back pay and other relief as determined by the court. She is represented by attorney Christopher J. Delgaizo of Kraemer Manes & Associates LLC in King of Prussia.
