PITTSBURGH — A former employee of UPMC Jefferson Regional Home Health is suing the company for allegedly firing her on the basis of her age.
Arduth A. Palermo filed a lawsuit on March 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against UPMC Jefferson Regional Home Health, citing violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967.
According to the complaint, Palermo was employed by UPMC from Feb. 14, 1997, through July 24, 2015, working in the position of compliance supervisor at the time of her termination. The plaintiff claims that she was involuntarily fired on the basis of her age, being 61 at the time. She allegedly is informed and believes she was replaced by someone younger and with less experience.
Palermo seeks an injunction enjoining the defendant from further discrimination, back pay, reinstatement to her position or front pay, compensation for lost wages, liquidated or punitive damages, and a trial by jury. She is represented by Jeffrey T. Morris of Elliot & Davis PC in Pittsburgh.
