Man accuses Harbor Linen of firing him based on age

PHILADELPHIA — A former employee of a division of Bed, Bath and Beyond is suing his former employer over allegations of intentional age discrimination.

Stanton S. Rhodeside filed a lawsuit on April 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Harbor Linen LLC, citing violations of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant is a manufacturer of bed linens and a division of Bed, Bath and Beyond. Rhodeside became employed by the defendant in April 2011 as a sales representative after having previously worked for Harbor Linen from 1978 through 1983, and from 1991 through 2006.

The plaintiff claims that he was prevented from working in sales areas where he could have been effective, but instead younger individuals were being funneled into those positions. The plaintiff was 60 years old when he was terminated in 2014, which he claims was a direct result of the defendant’s age discrimination.

Rhodeside seeks front and back pay, compensation for lost wages, punitive damages, attorney fees, and expert fees. He is represented by Lance Rogers and Alex B. Heller of Rogers Castor, in Ardmore.
