Woman sues over allegedly faulty knee implant

Kneeinjury

PHILADELPHIA — A woman is suing Zimmer Inc. for allegations of a faulty knee implant that allegedly caused her to require reparative surgery.

Verna Melendez filed a lawsuit on April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Zimmer Inc., Zimmer Holdings Inc., and Zimmer Orthopaedic Surgical Products Inc.

According to the complaint, Melendez was implanted with a Zimmer NexGen knee device on her right knee on Sept. 10, 2008, at Pennsylvania Hospital. The plaintiff claims that she suffered injuries and economic loss as a result of the defendant’s implant and had to undergo right knee revision surgery on May 18, 2015, as a result of the allegedly faulty implant.

Melendez seeks compensatory, exemplary, and statutory damages; attorney’s fees, costs, prejudgment interest, costs of the suit, and a trial by jury.
