Man claims Unum wrongly denied disability benefits

Insurance 09

PITTSBURGH — A man is suing Unum, an insurance firm, alleging breach of contract.

James Corbett filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Unum, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly denied his claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he became disabled and applied for disability benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds Unum responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly evaluate the plaintiff's condition and grant him disability benefits.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of the jurisdictional limits of this court plus punitive damages, court costs and interest. He is represented by Joseph A. Hudock, Jr. of Summers, McDonnell, Hudock & Guthrie, P.C. in Pittsburgh.
