Unum Life Insurance Company of America accused of wrongful denial of benefits

Insurance 04

PHILADELPHIA — A woman is suing Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging that she was wrongly denied disability benefits.

Angie Ficco filed a complaint on Jan. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging that the insurance firm improperly terminated her benefits starting on April 1, 2016.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered physical injuries when her head was struck by a swing set beam, and was paid benefits through March 31, 2016 but wasdenied after that date. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Company of America responsible on the grounds that she is not able to work full time and thus meets the definition for a disability under her policy.

The plaintiff seeks payment of all benefits due and owing, court costs plus interest and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Mary LeMieux-Fillery of The Law Offices of Eric A. Shore in Philadelphia.
