Westmoreland County woman seeks disability benefits from Met-Life, Verizon

Insurance 06

PITTSBURGH — A Westmoreland County woman is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Verizon Long-Term Disability Plan for Mid-Atlantic Associates and The Verizon Employee Benefits Committee, citing alleged breach of contract.

Cathy Michener filed a complaint on Feb. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania  alleging that they failed to pay her disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she sustained damages from having her long-term disability benefits terminated. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly upheld their decision to terminate the plaintiff's disability benefits despite the plaintiff's claim that she is still unable to work due to disability.

The plaintiff seeks for the defendants to pay the plaintiff all benefits plus interest for as long as she remains disabled, restitution, disgorgement, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Tybe A. Brett and Ruairi McDonnell of Feinstein Doyle Payne & Kravec LLC in Pittsburgh.
