Hellertown woman claims Cheapcaribbean.com fired her for requesting leave

Wrongful term 03

PHILADELPHIA — A Hellertown woman is suing Cheapcaribbean.com Inc., a vacation booking website, citing alleged violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act and wrongful termination.

Sonya Messick, who worked for the company as a sales representative, filed a complaint on March 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that the defendant terminated plaintiff's employment for exercising her rights to FMLA.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2017, she was terminated from her employment for missing work due to being diagnosed with foot and mouth disease. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly terminated plaintiff's employment as retaliation for going on an FMLA-protected leave.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for lost pay, lost benefits, exemplary and/or punitive damages, court costs, interest, reinstatement and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Samuel A. Dion of Dion & Goldberger in Philadelphia.
