PHILADELPHIA — A cashier is suing Shamir Corporation and its owner Idrish Vohra, citing alleged unpaid wages, violation of applicable minimum wage law and violation of Workers' Compensation acts.
Patricia Purvis filed a complaint on April 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the convenience stores and their owner alleging that they failed to pay fair wages to the plaintiff.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was damaged from performing her duty during her employment without being adequately compensated. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to pay minimum and overtime wages to the plaintiff despite her claim that she regularly worked more than 40 hours per week. She also claims she was not always compensated up to 40 hours' worth of pay and that the defendants supplied cash and prepaid cards in order to avoid paying overtime wages.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks all pay and benefits owed, liquidated damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti P.C. in Bensalem.
