PHILADELPHIA — A man is suing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, among others, over his inability to own firearms.
Steven Jefferies filed a complaint on May 23 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they denied the plaintiff his rights to bear arms.
Other defendants are ATF Deputy Director Thomas E. Brandon, ATF Associate Deputy Director/Chief Operating Officer Ronald B. Turk, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, alleging violation of civil rights, federal law and state law for his inability to own firearms.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was damaged from being deprived of his Constitutional rights to bear arms. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly unlawfully deprived the plaintiff of his Second Amendment rights because he was once involuntarily committed to a mental health institution, disqualifying him from firearm ownership under the current laws.
The plaintiff seeks injunction against the defendants, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Michael P. Gottlieb of Vangrossi and Recchuiti in Norristown.
