PITTSBURGH – A Beaver County man alleges his disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.
Patrick Sturm, M.D. filed a complaint on Sept. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Standard Insurance Co. and Heritage Valley Health System Inc. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff received disability benefits from the defendants from December 2016 to Jan. 23, and the benefits were denied on Jan. 25.
The plaintiff holds Standard Insurance Co. and Heritage Valley Health System Inc. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan responsible because the defendants' denial of the benefits was "infected" by conflict of interest, the suit states.
The plaintiff seeks pay disability benefits due to the plaintiff, order the defendants to pay $110 per day, order the defendants to produce all relevant documents, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Gregory G. Paul of Morgan & Paul PLLC in Pittsburgh.
