Man alleges he is entitled to disability benefits from Unum Life Insurance Co. of America

Insurance 02

ALLENTOWN – A Bethlehem man is seeking disability benefits after a work-related injury.

Eric Blasko filed a complaint on Nov. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he worked as a picker in a warehouse and was disabled due to severe back pain, which required surgery. The suit states he underwent surgery July 7 and filed a claim for disability benefits, but the defendant denied his claim on the grounds that it did not cover occupational sickness or injury.

The plaintiff holds Unum life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly wrongfully denied plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant requiring it to reinstate plaintiff's disability benefits plus interest and court costs. He is represented by Kevin L. Orloski of Orloski Law Firm in Allentown.
