Woman challenges American International Group's denial of disability benefits

Insurance 03

SCRANTON – A Clarks Summit woman alleges her claim for long-term disability benefits was wrongfully terminated.

Natalie Paolucci filed a complaint on Nov. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against American International Group Inc. citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffers from a low back injury with lumbar radiculopathy and has been disabled since March 2006. She alleges the defendant provided long-term disability benefits for 10 days and determined the plaintiff was no longer eligible for benefits on July 31.

The plaintiff alleges that the denial of her claim is contrary to the language of the policy.

The plaintiff seeks payment of long-term disability benefits, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Edwin A. Abrahamsen Jr. of Abrahamsen, Conaboy & Abrahamsen PC in Scranton.
