Medical coder alleges she was terminated by University of Pittsburgh Medical Center because of disabilities

PITTSBURGH – An Allegheny County woman alleges she was terminated from her job as a medical coder because of her disabilities.

Christine M. Logsdon filed a complaint on Dec. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh Physicians citing the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. She was hired by the defendants in 2013 as a medical coder, the suit states, and did miss work due to her conditions. The suit states she was terminated June 19, 2014.

The plaintiff holds University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh Physicians responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated against the plaintiff by terminating her employment because of her disabilities and failed to grant her requests for accommodation.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay, front pay, lost benefits, general, consequential and compensatory damages; liquidated damages; punitive damages; medical expenses; interest; court costs and any further relief the court grants.
