PHILADELPHIA – A consumer claims that a company is harassing her with telephone calls to collect a debt she does not owe.

Annemarie Berg filed a complaint on Dec. 29, 2017, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Aaron's Inc. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Pennsylvania Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act and the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she rented furniture from the defendant in October 2016 and paid all money due and owing on the furniture in December 2016. The suit states in September 2017, the defendant began calling her to collect a debt she did not owe.

The plaintiff holds Aaron's Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly made several automated telephone calls to the plaintiff's cellular telephone despite knowing that she did not owe this debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to enjoin the defendant, actual damages, statutory damages, treble damages, punitive damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Mark D. Mailman and Alexis I. Lehmann of Francis & Mailman PC in Philadelphia.
