PHILADELPHIA — A medical records coordinator is suing Citizens Acting Together Can Help Inc., a nonprofit corporation, citing alleged age discrimination and wrongful termination.

Bernice Kaplan filed a complaint on Oct. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Citizens Acting Together Can Help Inc., alleging the nonprofit corporation violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint the plaintiff is 85 years old. The plaintiff alleges that beginning in 2015, defendant subjected her to differential treatment on the basis of her age.

On Feb. 3, 2017, she was terminated despite refusing to sign her resignation, allegedly. She has suffered lost wages and benefits, mental anguish, embarrassment and loss of life's enjoyment, the suit says.

The plaintiff holds Citizens Acting Together Can Help Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly discriminated against her and terminated her employment because of her age and replaced her with a younger employee.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $150,000, liquidated damages, interest, and such other just and equitable relief. She is represented by Michael Murphy of Murphy Law Group LLC in Philadelphia.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Case No. is 2:18-cv-04443-NIQA.
