Cyclist files suit against Pacific Cycle over allegations handbrake lever broke while in use, caused crash

MEDIA – A man is suing a bike manufacturer, alleging that he was injured when the handbrake lever failed while he was riding the bicycle and caused him to crash.

Barry Caton filed a complaint in the Delaware County Court against Pacific Cycle Inc. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on May 15, 2017. The plaintiff alleges was riding a bicycle that was manufactured and sold by the defendant when a handbrake lever broke when he attempted to use it while descending a grade, causing the bicycle to reach a "terrifying speed" and a crash. He alleges he sustained severe and permanent injuries.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to sell the bicycle in a condition free from defects.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John J. Rendemonti in Glen Mills.
