PITTSBURGH — A couple are suing Costco after the wife allegedly swerved into damaged fencing with sharp wires near its Homestead store while riding along the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail.

Karen and Edward Pletsch filed a complaint April 6 in the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas against Costco Wholesale Corp. alleging negligence.

Karen Pletsch was riding her bike on the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail near Cosco's Homestead store truck loading dock on May 16, 2019. The plaintiffs allege she swerved into a damaged chain link fence that had wires pulled apart and was surrounding the loading dock. She suffered a laceration on her forearm, severed tendons and required surgery.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by attorney Matthew Doebler of Pribanic & Pribanic in Pittsburgh.
