PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh woman says she was mauled by a violent pit bull dog at an Allegheny County bar, and has taken legal action against the establishment for damages.

Sandra Haley of Pittsburgh filed suit in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas on Oct. 21 versus Shooters Bar, of McKees Rocks.

“On Sept. 15, 2019, defendant owned, operated, controlled, leased, inspected, possessed, managed and/or maintained the premises located at 1175 Island Avenue, McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Defendant owned a pit bull, which they kept at the aforesaid premises,” the suit says.

“On or about Sept. 15, 2019, plaintiff was lawfully on the aforesaid premises, when, suddenly and without warning, a Pitbull owned by the defendant attacked plaintiff, causing her to sustain severe and permanent bodily injuries, scarring, and losses.”

Haley asserts that the bar’s negligence was directly responsible for her injuries, in failing to recognize the risk of attack from the dog to visitors on the premises and failing to warn visitors to the premises of the dog’s presence and ferocity.

“As a result of the aforesaid negligence of the defendant, plaintiff suffered severe injuries, including, but not limited to, broken left wrist which required surgical repair, as well as aches, pains, mental anxiety and anguish, and a severe shock to her entire nervous system,” according to the lawsuit.

“As a further result of this accident, plaintiff has or may have suffered injuries resulting in the serious and/or permanent loss of use of a bodily function, dismemberment, and/or scarring, which may be in full or part cosmetic disfigurements which are or may be permanent, irreparable and severe.”

For a count of negligence, the plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $35,000, plus a trial by jury.

The plaintiff is represented by Anthony J. Giannetti and Adam D. Shorr of Swartz Culleton, in Pittsburgh.

The defendant has not yet secured legal counsel.
