Collapsed chair leads to lawsuit against Lancaster restaurant

LANCASTER - A civil lawsuit was filed on Feb. 16 against the Lancaster Commercial Traveler's Association (LCTA) by a Lancaster man that alleges that a chair he sat on at the LCTA restaurant on Yorkshire Drive was defective, after the chair collapsed when he sat.

According to documents filed in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas, Gilbert Ulmer was out to dine with his spouse, Robin Ulmer, in April 2019 at the restaurant, when the chair he sat in buckled and sent Ulmer to the floor.

Ulmer says LCTA's negligence that resulted in his injuries included knowledge of the unsafe condition, failure to remove the defective chair from the premises and failure to provide notice to diners of the condition.

The plaintiff is suing LCTA for his medical expenses and damages, plus interest and attorney fees, exceeding $50,000. He is represented by Thomas J. Floyd, Jr.
