Lawsuit: Woman suffers infection after visit to Lancaster nail salon

LANCASTER — A Lancaster nail salon is being accused of causing a woman to suffer an infection after the application of false nails. 

Trelaya Shorter filed a complaint  June 3 in the Court of Common Pleas for Lancaster County against Binh Le, doing business as Lee Nails, and Ecklin Development LLC alleging negligence. 

Shorter was a customer at Lee Nails in Lancaster on June 7, 2019, to get false nails, according to her complaint. She alleges that she contracted an infection on one of her fingers and nail and suffered "serious and permanent" injuries that included "acute paronychia of finger," a deformed nail bed and finger pain. 

Shorter claims as a result of her injuries, she has incurred medical expenses for treatment including prescriptions and physical therapy. She alleges in her suit that the defendants were negligent for failing to apply the nails correctly or to properly instruct her on post-application care. Shorter also alleges the defendants failed to ensure their employees were qualified, trained in order to inspect and maintain the instruments and supplies and were using the proper equipment. 

Shorter seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other proper relief. She is represented by Michael van der Veen of van der Veen, O'Neil, Hartshorn and Levin in Philadelphia.
