A Pennsylvania woman has filed a lawsuit against a local church and its affiliates, alleging negligence that led to her severe injuries. Cathy Pollock lodged the complaint on May 2, 2025, in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against St. Matthew C.M.E. Church, Inc., Charlena Crosby, and Hammie Byrd Trust et al.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on November 3, 2023, when Pollock visited the premises of St. Matthew C.M.E. Church located at 2349 Thomas Avenue in Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania. According to the complaint, Pollock was lawfully on the property when she tripped and fell due to a defective step while exiting the building. The fall resulted in severe injuries to her neck, back, and right ankle among other areas. Pollock accuses the defendants of failing to properly maintain the premises and alleges that their negligence created an unsafe environment for visitors.

Pollock's attorney, Marc F. Greenfield from Spear, Greenfield, Richman, Weitz & Taggart P.C., asserts that the defendants neglected their duty by not ensuring safe conditions on their property. The complaint lists multiple failures including inadequate design and maintenance of staircases and pathways as well as insufficient warnings about potential hazards. It further accuses them of ignoring building codes and regulations meant to safeguard public safety.

Pollock is seeking compensation exceeding $50,000 for her injuries which she claims have caused significant physical pain and emotional distress along with financial losses due to medical expenses and diminished earning capacity. She argues that these damages are directly attributable to the defendants' failure to uphold their responsibilities regarding property care.

The case will be presided over by judges from Delaware County's Civil Trial Division with Case ID: CV2025004100. Representing Pollock is attorney Marc F. Greenfield.
