Grocery store sued as salad bar customer says she slipped, did a split and ruptured hamstring

PITTSBURGH — A customer who suffered multiple injuries after allegedly slipping on produce left on the floor near the salad bar at a Giant Eagle is claiming negligence.

Michelle D'Alesandro recently filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas for Allegheny County against Giant Eagle Inc., doing business as Village Square Market District alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, D'Alesandro was at the Giant Eagle on Oxford Drive Village Square in Bethel Park on July 11, 2019. She alleges that as she walked by the salad bar, there was a piece of produce on the floor that caused her "left leg to go forward and right leg to go backward" which resulted in her landing on the floor "in a split position" and suffering serious injuries.

Specifically, D'Alesandro claims she ruptured and severed her hamstring tendons and suffered injury to her thigh, elbow, and ankle as well as incurred medical treatment expenses. She alleges the defendants failed to inspect the premises or warn of the danger such as having barricades to keep customers out of the area. She also claims the defendants failed to maintain the salad bar area.

D'Alesandro seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Wayne Chiurazzi and Edward Wertman of The Chiurazzi Law Group in Pittsburgh.
