Mother of groom sues after falling through rehearsal venue's wagon

SCRANTON — A woman claims she suffered serious injuries that required surgery after falling through a wooden wagon at the Fiddle Lake Farm venue in Thompson.

Laurie L. Vandunk filed a complaint June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Fiddle Lake Farm and Craig Benson alleging negligence.

Vandunk alleges in her complaint that she was at Fiddle Lake Farm located in the Town of Thompson for her son's wedding rehearsal on Aug. 30, 2019. She claims the defendants provided transportation from the parking lot to the rehearsal site by "an old wooden wagon" operated by Benson.

Vandunk further claims that as she stepped onto the wagon, the floor "gave out underneath her" and caused her to fall through the wagon and land on her arm. She alleges she suffered a dislocated shoulder and other injuries to her shoulder that required surgery and resulted in limited use of her "dominated right arm."

Vandunk claims the defendants' negligence for failing to inspect and keep the wagon in proper repair, and for failing to warn of the hazard due to the rotting of the floorboards on the wagon which was not a suitable way to transport guests.

Vandunk seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Brown of The Ziff Law Firm LLP in Elmira, New York.
