PITTSBURGH — A guest at the Wyndam Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel is claiming negligence after the hotel's elevator malfunction allegedly caused her to suffer a head trauma and other injuries.

Lisa Leone filed a complaint in June in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Wyndham Hotels and Resorts LLC and Otis Elevator Company alleging negligence and premises liability.

Leone was a guest at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel on Commonwealth Place on Sept. 2, 2020, as a competitor in the North American bodybuilding competition.

She alleges that while entering the elevator to go from the first to 21st floor, the elevator "suddenly jerked upward without warning" and caused her to stumble into the elevator and smash her face into the back wall and handrail.

Leone claims she suffered injuries including head trauma and injuries to her neck, face, hip, back and a fractured nasal bone. She claims her injuries also include headaches, insomnia and anxiety.

Leone alleges Wyndham failed to ensure its elevator was safe through inspection or testing and failed to ensure the elevator's proper installation. She further alleges the elevator manufacturer, Otis Elevator, knew or should have known the elevator was defective and posed a risk of harm.

Leon seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Patrick Murray and Jonathan Stewart of SMT Legal in Pittsburgh.
