PITTSBURGH — A couple are suing a physician and others, claiming the husband suffered serious nerve damage and other disabilities after orthopedic surgery.
Richard L. and Lori Ann Griffin filed a complaint July 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against John D Lehman, M.D., HVMG - Ortho, Heritage Valley Health System Inc., and Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital, alleging medical malpractice.
According to the Griffins' complaint, Richard Griffin sought orthopedic treatment from Lehman on July 8, 2019, for a muscle rupture in his bicep and underwent surgery performed by Lehman at the defendant hospital the following day.
The plaintiffs allege that a few weeks later, Richard Griffin began to experience "a pop" in the surgical area and that a "surgically implanted endobutton was dislodged." They claim Griffin underwent a second surgery and that following that surgery, he suffered from severe pain and the inability to extend his wrist or move his fingers. He alleges permanent nerve damaged and disability.
The plaintiffs further claim Lehman's failure to exercise reasonable care caused the dislodging of the endobutton and the damage to Griffin's interosseous nerve.
The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Regis McClelland
