PITTSBURGH — A couple are suing the County of Allegheny alleging its failure to properly light and warn of a drop off near a pedestrian guardrail break caused the wife to fall off a four-foot drop and suffer multiple injuries.
Laura Lacher and Robert Lacher filed a complaint June 18 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the County of Allegheny alleging negligence.
The Lachers were attending a concert at the South Park Fairgrounds on Aug. 2, 2019, according to their complaint. They allege that after the concert, they walked across Brownsville Road near the intersection of Farmshow Drive when Laura Lacher suddenly fell off a sharp four-foot drop off in one of the pedestrian guardrail breaks that did not have stairs.
The plaintiffs allege that Laura Lacher suffered fractured vertebrae, an open leg laceration, scarring, bruises, damage to nerves and muscles as well as anxiety and depression. They claim the area had poor lighting and no warning or indication of a drop off or absence of stairs to alert pedestrians.
The Lachers also claim the County of Allegheny failed to cordon off the dangerous condition, install a light or sign in the area, regularly inspect the area of the guardrail gap and negligently designed and installed the pedestrian guardrail gaps.
The Lachers seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief.
