MEDIA — The estate of a man who died of complications from a wound infection that developed while under the care of a Concordville nursing home is alleging negligence.

James Cheung, individually and as administrator of the Estate of Gerald W. Keister, deceased, filed a complaint July 12 against Brinton Manor Center SNF LLC doing business as Brinton Manor, Brinton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Imperial Healthcare Group LLC and Lighting Health Holdco LLC alleging negligence.

According to Cheung's complaint, Gerald Keister was admitted to Brinton Manor in Concordville on Nov. 11, 2019, to recover from surgery. Cheung alleges that while under the care of Brinton Manor, Keister, who suffered from dementia, developed a sacrum wound and suffered from incontinence.

He claims Keister's wound wasn't properly recorded on his medical chart, the wound dressing was not changed and no changes were made to his bed, chair or surface supports. He further claims the defendants also failed to make any nutritional interventions to Keister's care plan or notify him of Keister's wound or deteriorating condition.

Cheung alleges that Keister had to be admitted to Riddle Memorial Hospital for worsening of the wound, blood clots and other issues. Keister was then transferred to Veteran's Administration Medical Center and diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and sepsis and died on Dec. 9, 2019, from complications of his wound infection, according to the suit.

Cheung seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Francis Curran, Jr., Ryan Curran and Michael Pileggi of The Curran Firm PC in Media.
