Woman alleges water accumulation in produce department caused her fall at ShopRite

MEDIA — A woman claims a ShopRite employee allowed water from produce to accumulate on the floor which caused her to fall face down on the ground. 

Ruth Manapat filed a complaint Aug. 4 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against ShopRite of Eddystone, Collins Markets LLC and others alleging negligence and other claims. 

According to Manapat's complaint, she was at the ShopRite of Eddystone on Aug. 9, 2019. She alleges that while buying a watermelon, a ShopRite employee was removing lettuce from the display to a cart which caused water to be dripped onto the ground. 

Manapat claims she had no other way to walk, was "corralled in the direction of the spilled water" and while putting the watermelon in her cart, she slipped and fell forward about three to five feet. She further alleges she "landed violently on her knees" then fell forward again and landed on her abdomen "with her face flat on the ground." 

Manapat alleges she suffered injuries to her neck, chest, knees, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and tissues and suffered aggravation of a pre-existing conditions. She also alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to properly maintain the area of the store where she fell and for failing to provide a safe premises or warn of the dangerous condition. 

Manapat seeks monetary relief or more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Andrew Edelberg of Aivazoglou & Mikropoulos LLC in Eddystone.
