Lawsuit filed over Pittsburgh sinkhole that swallowed bus

State Court
Pitt

PITTSBURGH — A woman is alleging a defective commercial water line in Pittsburgh caused the bus she was riding to fall into a sink hole.

Michelle Goodlow filed a complaint Aug. 27 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and John Doe alleging negligence.

Goodlow was a passenger on a Pittsburgh Port Authority bus on Oct. 28, 2019, according to her suit. She alleges that as the bus was sitting at a red light at the intersection of 10th Street and Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, a 60 foot by 35 foot sinkhole opened up and caused the bus to fall backwards and tip at a 45-degree angle in the air.

Goodlow claims she was thrown as the back of the bus dropped into the sinkhole and suffered a concussion, injuries to her back, rib and chest, fractured dentures, anxiety and other injuries. She alleges the negligence of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to allow a defective commercial water line to exist in the area.

Goodlow seeks monetary relief of more than $35,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Trent Echard and Matthew Marquette of Echard Marquette PC in Allison Park.
