PITTSBURGH — A woman who suffered injuries after the ceiling in her Pittsburgh apartment collapsed is claiming negligence.

Francine Williams filed a complaint Sept. 22 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Birgo Realty LLC alleging negligence.

Williams was a tenant at the defendant's apartment located on Brighton Road in Pittsburgh on Aug. 19, 2021, according to her complaint. She alleges that suddenly and without warning, the living room ceiling in her apartment collapsed on her and caused her to suffer severe injuries including a concussion, whiplash, pulmonary, back and neck injuries.

Williams alleges Birgo's negligence for allowing the ceiling to be kept in dangerous condition for a prolonged period of time, for failing to recognize the defective ceiling and for failing to correct the hazard. She also alleges Birgo failed to warn or barricade off the defective ceiling or take proper safety measures. Williams claims Birgo also failed to hire competent staff to maintain its premises.

Williams seeks monetary relief of more than $35,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Anthony Giannetti and Adam Shorr of Swartz Culleton PC in Pittsburgh.
