MEDIA — A guest at a Red Roof Inn in Essington is claiming negligence after allegedly being shot by another hotel patron while walking back to his room.
Robert Vandergrift filed a complaint March 1 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against Red Roof Inns Inc., RRI West Management LLC, Red Roof Franchising LLC and others alleging negligence.
Vandergrift, according to his complaint, was a guest at the Red Roof Inn on Industrial Highway in Essington on Aug. 13, 2020. He alleges that while returning to his hotel room, he was shot several times by another hotel guest and has suffered permanent disability and impairment. He also alleges as a result of the shooting, he has suffered lost wages and incurred medical treatment expenses and required multiple surgeries.
Vandergrift claims the defendants' negligence for failing to take reasonable safety measures, failing to properly train, hire and screen their employees and not having proper security policies and procedures in place. He also claims the defendants failed to render aid after he was shot and did not protect or prevent his assault.
Vandergrift seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Craig Falcone of Sacchetta & Falcone in Media.
